How can we improve these dirty streets?

Streets full of trash.  Broken glass.  Camp Fire Cabin only area not fenced.  Evidence of someone sleeping in a cleared area of bark behind the building.  Human waste in a corner in front.  What to do??? Park can be kept clean even while changes are in progress.  Buena Vista Beautifiers is Adopting the West Morrison and West Park streetscapes.  First clean up will be July 26th.  Can you help? buenavistaparksm@gmail.com if interested. 2017 Updates on the Park

It's been a while since we posted, but we're back on it!  We're going to be following the progress on the redesign and development of Buena Vista Park in Santa Maria.  Follow our blog and get regular updates as changes are made.

No workers evident at the park the week of June 19th-23rd.

Why post two signs in Spanish right next to each other?  There are two signs in English on another part of the fence.  Was somebody not thinking when the signs were posted?

Yesterday morning Heather Weare gave a wonderful talk on the history of Camp Fire Girls and Camp Fire Girls in Santa Maria Valley for the Historical Society.  Did you know there were over 600 girls in Camp Fire Girls in the 60's? and Camp Fire Girls was started by the same husband and wife team that also originated Boy Scouts of America?  The Camp Fire Cabin is located in Buena Vista Park and is an object of historical merit.  Drive down West Park Street or West Morrison soon to see the little Cabin and consider joining the Buena Vista Beautifiers, whose mission is to assist the City Parks Department in maintaining and enhancing the Park.  We meet monthly.  The next meeting is Friday September 11th at Noon at the Camp Fire Cabin.  Hope to see you there!

Santa Maria Horse Shoe Club will do a horse shoe demonstration at Noon at Clean Up Day in the Park Saturday June 21st  at Buena Vista Park/ West Morrison and West Park St. Santa Maria.

Just back from New York City.  Urban parks are right in the largest most diverse city in the U.S.  They have homeless! BUT they also have park benches!  They have mature trees!  They have flowers!  It can be done ladies and gentlemen, but enough people have to care and to put forth the effort.  Will you be one of those people?
